🐾 Pet-Friendly Shelter Options
We know your pet is family.
Finding a safe place to sleep is hard enough. It's even harder when the doors that open for you won't open for your companion.
We hear you. And we're working on it.
Right now, our team is in active conversations with local shelters, animal rescue organizations, and community partners across Durham Region to create and expand pet-friendly housing options.
This isn't a promise we make lightly. We want to get it right — because you and your pet both deserve safety.
While we work on this, here are steps you can take today:
- Call 211 and ask specifically about pet-friendly emergency housing in your area.
- Contact your local SPCA or humane society — they sometimes offer temporary pet fostering so you can access shelter for yourself, and be reunited quickly.
- Check back here often. We will update this section the moment new options become available.
You don't have to choose between your safety and your companion. We're fighting to make sure of that.
